Through the end of 2023 I spent time working with The Shonai Collective as they prepared for the release of their new album, Epiphany, which is now available from the usual streaming services and for purchase from the publisher.

The album cover art for Epiphany was selected from a multitude of digital pieces that I made over the period, working from early recordings of the group’s performance of the new songs.

This work is a continuation of my interest in making reactive digital drawings that respond in realtime to a performance, while also building a cumulative response that becomes “real” at the end. The ultimate end goal is probably performance or installation pieces, which I’ve started to push forward recently… more to come.

With The Shonai Collective, excellent Jazz musicians, my motivation for the visual work was inspired by the intense connection of the performers in full flow as they perform a semi-improvised set.
