About

Steve Meyfroidt is a visual artist whose practice is grounded in drawing, computation, and research-led experimentation. Working at the intersection of art, technology, and science, he develops systems that translate acoustic, computational, and physical processes into visual form.

Drawing is central to his work, not as a fixed outcome but as an active process. Using custom software, generative systems, and mixed media, Meyfroidt treats drawing as something shaped by rules, inputs, and constraints over time. Computation is approached as both a material and conceptual medium, with its structure and behavior made visible through the work.

His projects often draw on methods associated with scientific and technical research, including iteration, observation, and system design. Rather than working toward predetermined results, the work emerges through process, foregrounding variability, indeterminacy, and the balance between control and chance.

In recent years, his practice has increasingly involved trans-disciplinary collaboration, particularly with musicians and performers. In these contexts, sound, gesture, and live performance data become active elements within visual systems. This has extended his interest in drawing toward time-based and responsive forms that unfold through interaction and improvisation.

Across exhibitions, collaborative projects, and performances, Meyfroidt’s work reflects an ongoing interest in how artistic practice can move between disciplines while remaining materially grounded and visually focused.
